Aye, Aye, Captain!

Most of the students are familiar with the cartoon Spongebob Squarepants which is great for this week since our letter is the letter S! Watch an episode with your child this week and talk about the Ss words: Spongebob Squarepants, sponge, starfish, snail, Sandy the Squirrel, and Squidword. We have also finished counting to 10. Please continue practicing this skill with your child at home.

These Words Keep "Popping" Up

Approximately 50-75% of the words your child reads are sight words: words they can't sound out and just need to learn. Please practice the ones we have already learned at home this week. They are I, am, have, is, a, the, little, like, we, my, to. Our letter this week is Ii and we are still practicing the numbers 0-10.

Mmm, Mmm, Good

This week we are studying the letter Mm. This might be the perfect time for a trip to McDonald's since their whole menu is full of Mm's (McNuggets, McGriddle, McDonald's, McFlurry, etc.) We are also beginning to study the numbers 6-10. A great way to practice this skill is to have your child count the number of letters in their name and other family members' names.

Fall Break

Remember Monday and Tuesday evenings are Parent/Teacher Conferences. Fall Break begins on Wednesday. School resumes on Monday, October 25. Have a great break!

Spirit Week

This week is a fun week--spirit week! Monday is crazy hair day. Tuesday is jersey day or favorite team day. Wednesday is pajama day. Thursday is crazy sock day. Friday is black and orange day. Look for a slideshow of spirit week pictures on the blog in the near future!
