The Monkey Song

This week you are likely to hear your child sing a monkey song about the sound you make when you put O and O together. We are spotlighting the digraph oo like in book, cook, brook, good, wood, stood, etc. I will be sending home a stick horse pattern this week for our Kindergarten Rodeo. Be looking for it!

This, That, and the Other

This week we are focusing on the digraph th and the sound it makes in words like feather, this, that, there, thimble, think, etc. We are also learning about time and when things happen throughout the day. To practice this, ask you child to tell you when they do certain daily activities. For example, students go to school in the morning, go home in the afternoon, and sleep at night. We only have 25 days left of school...the time has flown by!

Shhhhhhhh

This week you may hear a lot of "shushing" around your house because we are focusing on the special sound digraph sh. You can explore this sound by talking to your child about things they would see at the ocean: shore, shells, shark, fish, shrimp, etc. We are continuing to study money including the names of the coins and their amounts.

Money Poems

This week we begin focusing on money. We are learning poems for each of the coins such as "Penny, penny, easily spent, copper brown and worth 1 cent." Ask your child to recite the poems to you. We are also beginning to learn our special sounds. This week we are focusing on the digraph ck as in duck.
